Are you sure you don't need a DVI cable? I also had the monitor "tied" with a vga cable (1440 × 900) it looked ok, but you could see some fleas. I replaced the vga cable with a dvi one and when I turned on the computer, the screen went 2 times better (it had clear images….). If you don't have a dvi slot, try another vga cable. Some are manufacturing defects.
