How to perform the partitioning operation and how to create a partition right?
In this video tutorial will explain how to make a correct partitioning a hard disk taking into account the way it was done by the manufacturer, each hard is different and yet many people do not take account of this.
Partitioning a hard disk is not an operation that must be done in a hurry, we must take into account the number of magnetic disks that are present in that hard disk, we must also take into account the read-write heads and last but not least the capacity hard drive.
A hard disk that has two magnetic disks can have 3 or 4 read-write heads, 3 if one surface of a disk is not active and 4 when the hard disk has two active read surfaces on each tray -writing.

@Dragos: If you have two disks with two surfaces each yes, if you have two disks and you can have three surfaces, not necessarily every disk to be two surfaces.

Brethren, I don't want you to misunderstand me, but the idea of "correct partitioning of the hdd" seems incorrect to me, because those reading heads are not independent.
As far as I know, the writing of the information is done from the center of the discs to the outside, on all the "faces / surfaces" at the same time.

The advantage of partitioning (of any size) is that certain files can be kept defragmented, so the seek time will be short, and because the files are "contiguous" and because the seek area is restricted to the size of the partition not the whole hDD ..
@aerosol: You misunderstood the tutorial… there is no law that you have to sit with the computer in your hand and split it perfectly in two! It was even said in the tutorial that you make the C 30-40G and the rest divide it once or leave it like that… that partitioning with the division into 2 is valid in case you want to have 2 operating systems… the first half one more give once in 2…

I did some tests with Boby hours over 2 days he on xp vista me on the same, we partitioned in so many ways, I copied the package files that contain many small files, I copy large files (zip, rar , iso, uif).
This test I did using:
2 11 baracuda500 gig seagate hard disk normal
2 11 baracuda500 gig seagate hard disk stripe Raid0 normal 128
This test aimed to compare results between vista no sp sp1 and of course XP and Vista.
During these tests we installed 3 games each configuration.
The results are not so important, but we found that partitioning mode that I presented in the tutorial is much higher than where we partitioned classic and all tracks were written in a row.
If I installed a game that is on another hard we obtained almost the same result as when we partition a hard two and I installed the game that is on the same hard but on another surface.
Then I figured out how it operates, and how effectively these controllers working hard.
Partition test
c 8,5 gb - 3,5 gb free defragmented early space
d 4,5 gb - 2,5 gb free defragmented
and 70 gb - 3 gb free defragmented
f 65 gb - 3 gb free fragmented end space
Transfer rates:
c-> d 21MB
d-> c 21MB
c-> e 20MB
c-> f 15MB
e-> f 13MB
f-> e 12MB
Conclusions:
Between small partitions and defragmented we obtained higher transfer rates.
When I did transfer to or from a partition high transfer rate dropped to 10%.
If the partition was fragmented transfer fell 8-10%.
As partitions lie in the center of the disk (slow) transfer rate decreases. (30%)
My opinion is that the operating system will "move" better if it is in the "first half" of space.
Slowest of the hard disk will be the center of the disc, about 15-25% of HDD space.
Partition C be dimensioned in relation to the programs you use (max 10 15-gb). For example mine has 8,5gb which 3,5 free ..

Normally you do not see them in Windows (partitions), if after you've done and have not allocated the space. You can assign the Disk Management, click Dr., New and follow the wizard.
