What is the 2025 Gaming or Office Monitor Buying Guide tutorial about?
In this article, we summarize the features that different monitors have depending on their technology. We will see which are gaming monitors and which are office monitors.
Not all monitors are built the same
4K or 1080 resolution?
When choosing a monitor, we must take into account the brand, the type of panel used, the settings, the anti-reflective coating, and many other details.
For example, a 4K monitor, if you want to use it for 4K gaming, will greatly increase your PC budget.
A 4K monitor is better for productivity, office, web browsing, etc.
For gaming, a 1080 or 1440 with a high refresh rate is more suitable.
Should the screen diagonal be large or small?
For office, productivity, editing, browsing, etc., a large diagonal is preferable.
However, for gaming, especially competitive gaming, a diagonal of up to 24 inches is recommended. This way you will have the entire image in your field of vision.
Monitor settings
The cheaper a monitor is, the fewer adjustments it has.
This means that we will not be able to adjust the monitor's height and we will not have an ergonomic position in front of it.
For gaming and long work in front of the monitor, I recommend a height-adjustable monitor or using an external arm to mount the monitor.
Monitor brand
Well-known brands, especially in the mid- and high-end ranges, have quality monitors with quality sources and panels.
The most no-name ones tend to use panels with poor uniformity, dead pixels, and sources that are not durable.
But this is not a rule. It is also possible to find brand monitors that are made with poor quality components, especially entry level ones.
Anti-reflective coating
Anti-glare coating is very important if you have light sources behind you.
If you don't have any light sources behind you, I recommend a screen with a glossy coating, because they have the best contrast and color palette.
The more matte the screen coating is, the less it will bother you with reflections from behind, but at the same time the colors will not look as nice as on a glossy screen.
Screen resolution
For office, productivity, multimedia and browsing I recommend 4k
For gaming, it's best to limit yourself to 1080 or 1440, if you want to get away with more affordable video cards.
Consider that 4K resolution is 4 times higher than 1080, and you will automatically need an extremely expensive video card, a very powerful processor, and more memory to be able to play at a good fps.

The most important thing, PANEL TECHNOLOGY!
TN (twisted nematic)
It's only good for low-budget gaming. I don't recommend it for office use. It's an older technology that only has 2 advantages:
Advantages
Good price
Very good response time
disadvantages
Washed out colors
Poor viewing angle
Poor contrast
VA (vertical alignment)
It's good for gaming, office, multimedia, but it's not perfect.
Advantages
Grandpa response time
Good contrast
Good colors
Granny's viewing angles
disadvantages
Slow pixel response (motion blur)
There are too many VA options and you don't know what you're getting.
You can find a good VA or a worse one. It depends on the manufacturer and the panel used
IPS (in plain switching)
Pretty much the best quality for the price and it's very suitable for anything
Advantages
Good response time
Vivid colors
Good contrast
Good viewing angles
disadvantages
From personal observation, it is possible that in extreme cases image retention may occur, especially in high contrast areas with static elements.
OLED (organic light emitting diode)
It's the latest and greatest technology
It is suitable for any kind of content, except static content, due to its predisposition to burn-in, which is the greatest of all technologies.
Otherwise it's almost perfect except for the price.
Advantages
Rich colors
Infinite contrast
Very fast response time, almost instant
Very good viewing angles
disadvantages
OLED monitors are very expensive right now
Predisposition to screen burn-in
