Linux stick (how to put Linux on a usb stick a) tutorial video

How to make a linux on a usb stick?

It is a question that many have put it but have not found a raspuns.Acum this response in this video tutorial on how put a Linux on a USB stick.

This video tutorial is part of a long series of tutorials about free software, open source software and Linux distributions.

Unetbootin is the application with which we will put a linux on any usb stick, this is a free application, but also very powerful, being unbelievable how easy it is to pay for the task of making a bootable usb stick.

This usb stick with linux on it resulted from the operation in the tutorial, not only is it made very fast but it is also bootable… ..Incredible!

Glad you made this tutorial on installing the Linux OS on the stick.
I would ask you to do a tutorial for XP.
    Thank you

  5. I have a question I hope I do not seem imbecile: Cefaclor with linuxu that after you put the stick he can sainstalez programs directly ie we stick to them anytime, anywhere using the stick ?????

  6. Loothze.
Cund put linux on a usb like in this tutorial you can not install software on it because it's like a live cd.
CPC linux actually has a lot of software on it.
The best use of ATVs is go hard without maintaining an operating system installed and copy something or to do anything else.
You can use a computer with no operating system installed.
You can experience, you can get used to Linux operating systems without installing them on the hard and maybe you like and become an expert in Linux.
Unlike Windows Linux CPC does not cost money, specifically 90% of distributions of Linux are free, there are some money but those are for busines sector.
What would you lose if install it on the stick?
No need to modify your partitions on your hard drive, you should not do other changes, simply put the stick and boot from it, and in minutes you 2 100% linux operating system functional.

  7. Hi Cristi. I made the bootable stick with linux, I selected in the bios to load OS from the stick, first of all, I rebooted it and it was displayed what is displayed when starting the computer until the message “Verifying DMI Pool Data Update Succes ", after which, the prompt flashed and nothing happened. My Linux is not launched. I gave it a few times and so on. It stops after the message quoted above and nothing else. please if you can explain to me what happens if the operating system is not launched. Thank you very much and know that I am still following your tutorials.

  8. Andre, probably your version of linux is not good, I advise you to download a version of linux from the official sites and not from torrents or hubs! Make sure that the image you put on the stick is ISO, try another version of linux, probably the one you have is not good, it will be damaged… If you say that you made the settings in the bios correctly, and you put it on the stick as presented in the tutorial it has no reason not to work ...

  9. Hello downloaded Linux Adrian.Am exact site of the tutorial, I followed the tutorial exactly installations, the stick is 2 GB and Transcend's new, and I formatted before installing the settings are correct, on startup, bios sees my stick, but like I said, does not happen nimic.Nu can I figure out where it's glitch.

  10. Now I'm thinking to install a memory card to see if it happens to fel.Am come back after doing this.

  11. It would be something else… but since I didn't really go with linux… I don't know if it's valid… although when I last played with a linux… it automatically booted from the CD it didn't ask me like at Windows Press any key to boot from CD… I know that the installation of linux started automatically. And if I'm not mistaken this message only appears on CDs and only on Windows… or it probably booted me directly because I was using a live CD. Please don't -s a linux fan… although it's cute

  12. I think I am still trying incurcat.Nu memory card, I think I confused the installation of applications portabile.Ce I mean is that I downloaded Linux Mint version 6 felicia.Ultima version that is available on Linux Mint .

  13. Andre if you noticed in that program unetbootin you have to choose exactly the version you have… Cristi in the tutorial when he opened the list of versions he knows this unetbootin I did not see linux mint 6 than versions 1 3 and 5 as if or 3 4 5 I don't know exactly but in no case was version 6! That's probably why it doesn't work for you… look for a version of linux that has unetbotin in its database, that unetbotin can support! Or download unetbootin once again, you probably upgraded it to support version 6. Linux often releases new versions, on the conveyor belt I see that they remove them look for an older version even on mint 5 that Cristi used in the tutorial !

  14. Hi Adrian, I have already done so, I downloaded linux and UNetbootin 5 282, as shown in the tutorial, I installed the stick and so I do.
What makes me think is that it should not be set well from where to boot, because when windows are launched it says "boot from CD", while when I boot from the stick no message that he wants to boot from somewhere. As I said, the prompt stays on and blinks and does nothing. I check if the bios settings regarding booting are good.

  15. Andre… you see that in the BIOS there are 2 settings related to the boot, look where you see the First boot device and set USB I can't tell you exactly where to find the setting because the BIOSes differ a little from one PC to another!

  16. when we will have WINDOWSUL XP.?????? on stick…. :)

  19. @john71: In order for you to see that icon like Cristi, you need to have a program that recognizes ISO images, such as a burner, winrar, and other software that recognizes ISO images. If the icon you download is not like Cristi's this does not mean that it is not an ISO image or that you cannot use it !!! All you have to do is burn it to a CD or put it on an ISO image emulator such as daemon tools, alcohol or put it in this program. UNetbootin It's like when you install windows… you saw that if you don't install your winamp the audio files have the icon of windows media player with that red circle and play button in the middle… .and you saw that if you install winamp the icons on the audio files change to those icons with blue and a yellow lightning on them… they so on Cristi, has a program that deals with ISO images and that's why it looks like this…

  20. I did everything you said. I had a much sought after iso image. I jumped off the stick and it says: syslinux 3.72 2008/09/25 cbios etc. ”could not find kernel image: linux boot: _”. I bore you but consider that I am in kindergarten. Do you have any idea what I did not do properly? Thank you.

  21. @john71: You didn't have to do anything I said… I just explained to you why that icon appears on Cristi's ISO image !!! I don't know how you did it… if you tell me the steps you followed maybe I can help you… however I recommend you to watch the tutorial again and try to do this job again! Look at the whole head-to-tail tutorial without scrolling!

  22. I have a question. You can partition a stick? Because I have a stick I put linux and I want to use the space that remains that I stored my other files: images, documents etc music.

  23. @Andrew: I do not think it is possible to stick partitioning but many folders do you want in it!

  24. Yes but when I run linux on a stick, I can not get into the drive's stick, I give legal aid by mistake.

  25. @Adrian: I managed with Acronis Disk Director to partition my stick in 2 have a linux one and the other is like a D computer.

  26. be careful the stick must be formatted FAT…. linux doesn't know about NTFS …… there are tutorials on the net with xp on the stick those as normal tutorials dc someone is interested in giving mail and I give them the documentation… don't be scared it's not much to read

  27. @samy: The email you write in the box when you make comments does not appear on the site !!! You must leave your email in the comments! I would like the documentation but I don't see your email… so please leave it in the comment, not just in the box when you fill in the name and email!

  30. @calipso1580:
There are many distributions, but not all of them, you can find a list of supported distributions on the "unetbootin" website.
Strange that you did not go Ubuntu, ubuntu was usually well supported, may depend on the version, and you try a slightly older version.
The most beautiful way to boot from the stick is "linux mint".
It's like ubuntu even has some extra stuff.

  36. @adriano: The answer is in the tutorial as well as in the presentation text above the tutorial! If you put that linux on the stick and use it in live mode… you won't need to install linux… and you won't lose sight! See k we also have a tutorial about linux mandriva, which shows how to use linux live CD… write up on the right mandriva give enter and find it .. you can also run this on the stick in live mode but will run from the stick not from the CD

  43. What's the point of these comments if any admin does not care to write an answer.

  44. @Bion: Try with another USB stick and check the BIOS settings (to be enabled support for USB).
Try Linux Mint or older versions of Linux, older does not mean a few months, try not to use that even the latest versions may not borne 100% of UNetbootin.
I apologize for the delay in response but I know that we get hundreds of comments a day, and not always able to respond at all.
    Stop waiting for us.

  45. Adrian said

@Bion: Do understand your anger! You paid something must respond once? See that there are linux romania official website! where if they enter into Romanian forum even have an IRC channel where you can talk in real time with people from linux and can guide you! When looking for something not expected and not only looking in one place! Search more if you want a quick response! We are not here we focus specifically on Linux, it was only following the presentation for you to discover it and cercetati.Incercam as possible to answer, but we and others head out the site!

  46. Pt. Adrian.
You gave a typical response Romanian and that says it all.
So when you start and make a tutorial site (A tutorial is a method of transferring knowledge that can be used as part of learning. A tutorial tries to learn by the example method, and provides information to complete a specific task.) to consider the possible complications, ie one is worse and does not understand, there is a mistake in the tutorial, blah blah, blah… and it seems normal to explain, especially since each tutorial has the opportunity to leave comments .
No need to take your feathered visitors in telling them that you have more treburi.Daca must go to sew sewing brother go and left the site there are others better.
And if I had to pay something you definitely ought to give every word count from users.
Finally I wish to you that I did not upset but I said who put a tutorial usually have to check their account for any messages.
    Thanks Cristi

Seriously? Great, right now I put Ubuntu on the stick and want to learn more about Linux and of course the Terminal program.

  52. Greetings to all
I also experimented with what was said in the tutorial, I made the stick, I played with linux, after which I installed it on a separate hdd (I have 3 hdd) and more recently I spend more time on linux (it was a little harder with the training partitions but with the help of another tutorial I solved the problem) I try to have on linux what I have on windows I don't think it's hard on linux… maybe because I don't know much on xp, vista, 7.
I have a question. When I downloaded the unetbootin I saw a version for linux. I downloaded but I didn't manage to do anything. Can I do a tutorial with this version as well?… Who knows maybe someone wants to make a usb stick with this method starting from linux.

    • alex: I have downloaded UNetbootin intrebare.Cand I've seen a version for download but I resit linux.Am do nimic.Se can make a tutorial with this version? Pote ... who knows someone wants to make a usb stick to it method starting from linux

Download and download the version for linux, right click on the file, go to properties, enter the permissions tab, check "allow the execution of the file as a program" and close give 2 clicks or open with wine and ready it works on linux. By the way it can be installed and windows with it you don't choose anything up to the distribution or the version but you upload the iso file directly with windows.

  53. I'm still. Only now I read other comments where I saw that it didn't work for others. I put ubuntu 9.04 (I didn't put 9.10 so I don't have problems with the net… c.net) and so I still can't use mail evolution… maybe because I only have the messaging address. on which I receive emails. The pidgin works.

  54. Super interesting. And I looked for something to transfer the ISO on the stick. Merci.

  55. And if we do not d boot option from USB / removable drive in bios, what to do? please advice, apart from the live CD.

From what I know you use a live CD or USB stick in live mode settings that you do not save. After restart it will lose all your settings. But all at once there they say a method to do so that even if you use a USB stick in live mode it will keep settings even after reboot. I'll make a tutorial about it. You have my admiration and my congratulations because you're the only girl / woman who uses Linux, at least from what girls / women I know, not to say that you know and some commands. I'm rarely given to meet a geek aritele. I've never met one before. But you did not say what kind you put on your stick Mint? you installed or did you just stick bootable?

    Howdy
I've used the same method as in the tutorial (discovered through trial). It worked perfectly. But I did not agree because it does not save the settings. We found then Linux Live USB Creator application which allows saving settings. Furthermore, the installation can be done on a USB external hard drive. Although it remains a drawback, namely limiting the 4 GB boot partition due to the use partitioning with FAT32 not allow larger file management 4 GB. I experienced a hard disk partitioned in GB 60 30 30 and both FAT32. The first partition I installed Linux Mint Isadora 9 that works great (can read and movies on DVD from Ubunturi which we did) and the second I left for maneuver. The surprise is that the HDD in Linux gestionarele shows me only the first partition to 4 30 GB remaining space is shown as unusable so inaccessible. I think the same thing happens if you use a USB stick with more than 4GB.
I appeal to experienced Linuxistii tell me if there is a way to install external USB HDD a persistent Linux distribution (by keeping settings) to exploit more than 4GB (now my operating system is saturated pretty quickly when I try to make upgrades, was forced to give up some in favor of others). I tried installing full version USB HDD HDD by disconnecting own. It worked but not when I moved hard drive to another computer, which means that such an installation is dependent on the car and non-portable. I know there are other types of formatting partitions, Linux specific, eg. ext3, but I do not know how to use them and I hesitated to try them.
I hope others have done experiments and I would be glad if I could share their experience.
    With well.

When I throw it on the stick, it gives me an error that it doesn't recognize ... RAM is a volatile memory. If you "write" something on it, the next time you don't remember anything, once you stop powering it, hello, all the data on it is lost.
I suggest you buy a stick 4 GB (cost about £ 25) and make it bootable Persistence nice cache.
For more details, type in the SEARCH box in the top right sidebar "Create Live USB stick Ubuntu 11.04 with persistence cache (keep the settings after restart)" press enter and you will find the tutorial

  83. Greetings and thanks for the very good stories and teachings above. They used me a lot the other day when it seemed to eat me hard to see what linux is eaten with. I didn't know anything about this OS (well now I'm not an expert (:))) but at least I know that linux has many OS. I used your tutorial and put on a stick the last linux mint mate, the unetbootin was magical and when finally for the first time in my life linux opened in front of my eyes I fell on my back in amazement and surprise… .I had a system very friendly and simple to use and that provided me with absolutely everything I needed… Thank you for the moment offered…. now I have as main OS xp home edition but sure after microsoft will get its hands on it (I understand on 01.01.14) I will install a version of linux. I mean for all those who intend to know linux systems that nothing is said is true…. For example they are completely different than windows and even those who are skilled in windows will encounter difficulties in operating linux…. it's a lie… .there are some differences but they are so friendly and well equipped that it is worth installing them even if only on USB and to know them. Now while digging here and there I discovered a program that you surely know… .is a magic program for installing linux systems… has a facility to download online linux systems and then install on usb… .is friendly, free and is called Linux Live USB Creator… Now I installed on ubuntu a ubuntu last edition… ..very cool and this OS especially because it has as Chromium browser that I use for years… Hello ut .I wrote a lot… .goodbye

I teach you how to do it but only if you have PPPOE that is from rcs & rds (RDS) IF YOU HAVE FROM ANOTHER PROVIDER I CANNOT HELP YOU. here's how you enter VPN CONECTION and then when you configure VPN you enter (DSL) and give ADD. . now what do you have to do. where it says CONECTION NAME, delete everything and type RDS. now where it says DSL, at USERNAME for example, CT23234726
AND THE PASSWORD PASSWORD SCRI. SEE SO spelled correctly. if you do not go spellings. success

  89. Where can you shoot facuto linux as you put a link please ???

    • Linux is a kernel based on which were developed several legal and free operating systems called distributions. More is open source (source deschisa- anyone can contribute. Whoever can do with the knowledge needed an operating system based on Linux). Cristi used in tutorial about Linux Mint you here on the website a tutorial presentation which you can find using the search box. There are also tutorials and on-the most popular Ubuntu Linux distribution. Both distributions are freely and legally downloaded from the internet you just need to search on Google. Look and links in case you can not handle though it is very simple:
      Ubuntu
      Linux Mint

In terms of internet, it comes with browsers Firefox 3.6.8, Google Chrome 6, Opera 10.61, and aMSN and Skype messaging clients. If in the previous version Super OS 9.10 Wubi was released now it was included again in version 10.04.1. If you don't know what Wubi is, here is a video tutorial about it. Who wants to make a bootable USB stick with Super OS 10.04, all you have to do is download the ISO image and mount it with Daemon Tools (if you're on Windows). The ISO image includes the cd2usb utility that allows the creation of a bootable USB stick. [...]
