Right click on the document in question (word for example) in the context menu choose the Open With function then Choose default program. From the Recommended Programs list, left-click on the Word 2003 icon and tick down Always use the selected program to open this kind of file then click OK. If the Word 2003 icon is not in the list. You have the Browse button that you click and go to the program files in the folder where Office 2003 is installed and you choose the executable for word 2003. The check box "Always use the selected program ..." box remains valid in this case as well.
