Installing the uTorrent client on Linux - video tutorial

Hi friends, in this tutorial we will talk together about the uTorrent version for Linux. Recently, the developers of the super-famous torrent client uTorrent released a version for Linux. Currently the application is in the alpha stage and does not have a graphical interface but only the server client. And yet we in today's tutorial will learn together how we can use a WEBUI interface (web user interface) to set up, download, use our uTorrent client in Linux from a graphical interface. Installing this uTorrent server is very simple. We go to the official website utorrent.com then access the Download section and go to the Linux tab where we will be offered to download the Alpha version. Click on the download button and once we have the tar.gz archive in our pc, we right-click on it and choose the Extract Here function from the context menu. A folder with the same archive name will result except for the tar.gz extension. I recommend that you move the resulting folder to the Home folder or any other location on your PC. Then to run the server simply go into the folder and run by double-clicking the file called "utserver" and that's about it. Once the uTorrent server is running, it can be accessed and controlled from anywhere thanks to the web interface. Accessing and controlling the uTorrent client will be done by typing in the address bar of any browser, the ip and the 8080 port on which it is set by default. If we are running the server and we want to access the Web interface from the same PC on which the uTorrent server is running, all we have to do is write in the address bar: http: // localhost: 8080 / gui. If we want to access it from another computer, instead of "localhost" we will have to write the ip of the respective computer, ip that can be found by typing in google "my ip" and clicking on the first result. All settings and how to use the client, once accessed, are identical to how to use and the settings we apply in the uTorrent client used in Windows. Although the version is in the alpha stage, at the moment I have not encountered any problems in running and operating this torrent. Towards the end, I would ask you if you encounter difficulties or notice strange behaviors of this client, do not hesitate to leave us a comment. We are waiting for your opinions about this uTorrent client.
Remember, if you have suggestions, complaints or additions do not hesitate to write in the comments box, de-also if you met the comments box a user has a problem and you can help him, do not hesitate to do it, the only way we can do this place better, see the comments box!
Enjoy !
Who wants to use WebUI interface and windows, we have a tutorial made by our colleague Cristi: How can we control uTorrent remotely via WebUI

  • One year to go until the normal version out and not alpha! If Linux could optimize and that Windows would be easier to use and install applications such as gaining much more.

This is already happening, Ubuntu is getting easier to configure, install and set up just because you don't know how to do all this, it's also normal, you didn't even know in windows and you learned them in time, right? But it does not seem fair to me to make unfounded statements that this is not good or that it is harder. It is also normal that you are used to doing things in a way in Windows and already entering your reflex, working on a completely different system may seem strange and complicated, but it is not so. On the contrary, Ubuntu is much easier to use than windows, where you say it's virus free (you don't need a firewall or antivirus and you won't always be careful about the resources that security software eats) More and more Linux applications have started to get graphical interfaces! More and more manufacturers are turning their attention to this system and if until now it could have been ignored, the existence of the free software community (open-source) can no longer be ignored. I am sure that if from the beginning since you started using it You would have had and used only the PC and you would have said about windows that it is difficult and not easy to configure ...

It has been 1 month or 2 since the official announcement that a version of uTorrent for Linux will be released and until the release of this Alpha. All that's left now is to put a graphical interface over the "core" client server.

It's only natural that you are used to doing things in a way in Windows and you already entering his reflex, working on a completely different system is gonna sound weird and complicated, but it is not so. Rather, it's muult Ubuntu easier to use as Windows where you put it's virus free (no firewall or antivirus you need and you will not always be careful that they eat resources security software) Increasingly Linux world applications have started to get graphical interface! Increasingly more manufacturers are turning their attention to this system and if so far can be ignored now no longer can ignore the existence of the community of free software (open source) I'm sure if from the beginning of when you started to use PC you had only used Linux as you have said about windows it's hard and it's easy to set up ... Since when was given the official announcement that it will launch a version of uTorrent for Linux and appeared until the Alpha passed 1 No way 2 1 month or year. All that's left now is putting a GUI over the "core" client server.

Perfect adevarat.Pe Besides these add that in linux, if you have patience and do not take immediate Windo $ u in my arms .. discover that your client is ready and GUI install, rTorrent in Gnome and KDE KTorrent in and if mortis even know you use uTorrent, you can even use the Windows install with Wine emulator.
And I suspect that installing a program just by looking for it in the package manager, clicking on install and waiting a few seconds, is much simpler than searching for it on the net, giving a few next, next, ok, ok..after which crack / key-gen, on which occasion you can get infected with a virus..So in conclusion, not installing programs is the bad part of linux, but others, DirectX and Audio / Video in mess ... Short example, not linux it's to blame that the native Photoshop doesn't work, but the ones from Adobe because they didn't make a version for linux ... just like Yahoo got to version 10 of Windows, and to the one of linux they stopped at 1,4. The reasons are obvious, but that doesn't make Linux a system inferior to Windows.

      I agree with you.

Why not try Tixati? for me is the best in linux.

I tried last night Tixati (I had no idea that the exit as I have not found in Ubuntu Software Center) after I failed to install utorrent. What can I say except that it's great, exactly what I wanted, and configuring the official site is very ajutatoate.Mersi uinix. For three days I have had linux on my computer (as the main OS) and I am fascinated by it. I tried all Friday to install it but it didn't work at all. I tried all the versions: ubuntu (verses 9 and 10), kbuntu, kiwi, fedora and absolutely none worked for me. I couldn't boot or more precisely it crashes after the first 3 minutes of installation. I didn't realize why even though I installed it using the video card you have radeo hd4730 either only the one incorporated on the base plate intel gma 4500 (as if). Unsuccessful. So on Saturday I said "let's try an older version". Said and done: I put Ubuntu 8.04. And the surprise went razor sharp. I lost 2 more hours with the installation of the video card driver (which I managed to do from the back of Ubuntu if I may say so). Looking for the solution to my problem "why doesn't a newer version work on my computer" I discovered Super OS 9.10. I can only say that installation was very easy detactandu my video card after instalare.Acum works best, although I still have reflexes windows. I had some problems with the video player, because it ran best format. Mkv.Dupa few attempts I was to VLC and I'm looking forward multumit.Astept other tutorials on this great OS
PS Adrian you are "guilty" of my switch to ubuntu linux :) :) :)

  • Welcome back Adrian.Vreau to congratulate you for this tutorial.am understood everything and works intocmai.Si I want to keep these tutorials about linux ubutnu. No need to worry about it, he seeks only after uodate sites and when you announce will be available via a pop-up, all you will need to do is to click on Install Updates

  • adrian what software did you capture? I use gtk-recordmydesktop but it doesn't seem so clear. linux 4 ever;)

    • agentutuAdrian what software did you catch?'m Using gtk-recordmydesktop but he does not ever seen so clar.linux 4

Capture software? hmm .... gtk-recordmydesktop is a bit dusty because the video files are in .ogg format and it's worse. I recommend recorditnow with ffmpeg or compile ffmpeg (not the one from Ubuntu Software Center or the one from medibuntu sources because those are some nonsense), after which you can capture through a code that captures in .mkv format at a very good quality, .mp4 good quality, .avi good quality.I compiled ffmpeg and x264, I use a capture code that makes in .mkv format after which I encode it with the DeVeDe application, Avidemux + with Vlc (I recommend DeVeDe with Vlc).
