Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 LTS officially available for download, installation and presentation - video tutorial

Hello friends, in today's tutorial I will present you the new Ubuntu Linux distribution released today, April 29.04.2010, 10.04, under the name Lucid Lynx XNUMX LTS (Long Time Support). LTS is a distribution that benefits from a special attention from Ubuntu, the LTS versions being much more stable and having a higher priority for its developers. Ubuntu is a Free operating system and at the same time Open Source which means that "anyone" can contribute to the development of software for it. Ubuntu is and will always remain free, this being one of the promises of Ubuntu. If you are wondering what is new in this Lucid Lynx distribution, here is the answer:

- 2 new themes were added, respectively Radiance and Ambiance
- the close, minimize, maximize buttons of the windows have been moved to their left, but only if you use the 2 Ambiance or Radiance themes
- The Me menu has been separated from the Log Out button which has been assigned new functions such as logging in or changing status in social services such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- new features added to the Ubuntu One service such as synchronizing bookmarks in the Firefox browser, contacts (which is rumored to be paid), synchronizing files, saving archives from the social client. In version 9.10 Ubuntu One only supports file synchronization
- a new package of Wallpapers
- splash screen changed
- a PiTiVi video editing software, simplistic but very good. You can cut, paste videos or even add a soundtrack to them.
- a Gwibber social client has been added that allows you to log in and post on Twitter or Facebook and not only directly from your Desktop without having to use your browser for it.
- some games have been removed from the Games menu
- the wonderful Gimp photo editing software has been released. obviously it can be installed if you want. We on videotutorial.ro also have a good series of tutorials about Gimp
- a new feature has been added to the Rhythmbox player, it's about the Ubuntu One Music Store where you can buy or download music
- new icons in Nautilus (file manager equivalent to Windows Explorer)

I hope this version of Linux do furor among democrats if not already done. Since the beta of this version 2 appear pretty good. What will happen or what will occur in the future remains to be seen and quite certainly we will keep you posted. If you want to try Ubuntu Lucid Lynx LTS 10.04 you can do it by downloading it from the http://ubuntu.com because it is not yet available on the website of Romania. Tin has also said that the boot time has improved and still a very important aspect is that this new dostributie start check and download new updates since the installation wizard, this is where you plug connected to internet PC during the installation, meaning that there will be no need for us to check updates or make new updates after you install Ubuntu, it is done already installed.
If you have not used Linux before and want to step into the world of Linux we have a series of tutorials on how to install Linux in dual boot with Windows, how to install drivers, how to install Linux, how to partition, such codecs are installed on Linux, how to use ODC client on Linux.
The final 2 I want to give you important tips:

- Although it is the final version try not to put much base in it, it is still a very hot system, just out of the "oven" and it is very likely to encounter bugs or notice that things are not going as they should. Play with it on a virtual machine at the moment or install it on a test computer (if you have one), I say this because it is too early to rush and get excited. If you want to use it as the main daily operating system, wait at least 4 weeks for the waters to calm down, for things to be clarified and for any bugs to be reported and possibly repaired.
- I recommend you not to make the transition from 9.10 to 10.04 through Update Manager, it is best to do a fresh install (a clean head-tail installation) I say this because a fresh install takes much less than an upgrade through Update Manager, where you add that errors, file conflicts or even data loss can occur during the upgrade. Rather than banging your head with recoveries or fresh install, you better do it all at once. Even the most knowledgeable Linux or Ubuntu community will recommend a fresh install instead of an Upgrade
To better understand what it is about and see in fact the above I propose to look at the tutorial video together. Me I have given about the new themes and new Wallpaper with which it comes by defaut (baseline). You what do you think?

Remember, if you have suggestions, complaints or additions do not hesitate to write in the comments box, de-also if you met the comments box a user has a problem and you can help him, do not hesitate to do it, the only way we can do this place better, see the comments box!
Enjoy !

Update 2-05-2010:

On Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 LTS, there are no more problems with the PPPOE connection (RDS), the previous version 9.10 had some bugs when establishing PPPOE connections.

In connection with the new version I'd say it's a great thing and it not only changed the sound of May bne Sound Driver Pulse said that's pathetic in my opinion and it's still beta (for 2 years) while ALSA is more nus good but why not implemented, otherwise it moves more than 9.10 bne has and still something seems to finally solved the problem with pppoe now going to do direct net connection manager, you are a DSL and ready . now do not know if the bug is resolved and Huawei modems from Vodafone but I hope da.Recomand kindly try this OS!
Thank you for submitting! Hope to come and other tut on linux.

Have you followed the ones we already have? You can find them by typing them up in the Search box on the right: Linux and giving Enter. If I'm not mistaken the ALSA driver comes in Kubuntu, Amarok uses them. Linux in general has always been bad on the sound and video side, I mean drivers (ATI). I haven't had any problems with the sound so far ... my sound card is an integrated one Realtek supports 7.1 system. My biggest frustration is that your drivers are pathetic. If you are planning to buy a video card and want flexibility on any operating system, buy nVidia. These are very well supported by Linux

Yeah I actually watched and will watch tutorials, because I do not really walk very much game sites reviews, tutorials, news, etc. on your site and watch it for the February 2009 tut and I really like especially how present them, so when I had seen the archive VAM makes the tut I spent almost a day to see them but it was worth it :))

        • Dap, in fact, I have watched and I follow all the tutorials, because I don't play much, I go a lot on review sites, tutorials, news, etc. and I have been following your site since February 2009 and I really like it especially how you present them, so when I didn't have anything to do we saw the whole tut archive, I stayed for almost a day to see them but it was worth it)

You said you had a problem with Pulse ... can you tell me please if you want of course ... what sound card do you have?

          • You said you have problems with Pulse ... can you tell me please if you want of course ... what sound card you have?

Then I have an integrated C-Media AC97 5.1 card, and I'm ashamed to say the video card, but I'm ashamed to have an equally integrated 128 (shared 256 ...) with the video card, I have no problems, it works great in ubuntu, my movies also work 720p. As for the sound it sounds a bit bad ... I can say, I have a logitek 2.1 system and if I turn it to max or almost it sounds barred and I want to say that in windows I don't have any kind of problems, but in the end it seems like a successful system and worth trying especially since it costs nothing.

  • super. Very good that you made a general presentation convinced and I will pass on this version of Ubuntu that I had precedence. Supports the future more and tricks in ubuntu (November whether or discover if longer) and it can be tutoriele about many linux distributions.

  • Very loud Adrian this version!
But I want to say one more thing, it doesn't compare the download speed that Ubuntu has with the windows xp or windows 7: P operating system.
    ubuntu is cooler :)

  • where download the iso?

Yes and you Search on "Gooagle" and write Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and the second result is the one with the miracle .... how simple it is !!

  • Good tutorial. Did seem a bit rushed. What I have said is that Gimp was not removed from 10.04 ubuntu, you can install it easily in Ubuntu Software Center. I have already installed Ubuntu 10.04 is super in my opinion, and those who want to install Windows without losing the pc I recommend Wubi. Enjoy the new Ubuntu.

We have more tutorials related to Linux ... about installation, partitioning ... I also said in the presentation text above the video tutorial ... that's for aliens because Romanians won't read it ... they know to digest only Guta and movies ... God forbid they read anything ... I considered that debating on other occasions more thoroughly the installation steps and explaining once it was to be explained to go over these aspects ... after all install differently from the old 9.10 than the first 2 steps are different but not very ... There was a tutorial about installation, and about partitioning and about wubi and how to install drivers and how to install flash, codecs etc ... it remains for you to find them with the Search box at the top right.

          You're right, I held view.

  • 2 chichitze that I have seen so far (these have manifested themselves on my computer, on other PCs I don't know what to say) ...

Ubuntu's default player for playing movies has trouble playing subtitles (subtitle upload as soon as it is posted, but if you rewind a little movie * even a few seconds * subtitle is lost). It would be more efficient VLC or MPlayer.

-Problems related to java. From what I noticed ubuntu comes with "Open JDK java 6 runtime" already installed. It is probably a modified version by ubuntu developers. The problem is that it loads my processor a lot (98-99) when I enter certain sites that require java such as file uploads. This happens even on the java test page on java.com. Also, symptoms of these also appear when using VUZE - azureus (java-based torrent client).

But when I uninstalled "Open JDK java 6 runtime" and installed the original version "Sun java (TM) Runtime environment (JRE) 6; everything seems to have returned to normal.
