As a complement when it comes to VPN connections (I mean those connections that are made directly from Windows, not those that are created based on a separate application like the one at the hotspot shield).
In some cases (especially on Windows XP) operating system refuses to use DNS it provides the VPN connection. He tends to use them all on the same internet provider.

Creating the connection itself is not difficult on any operating system. The problem is where to get a VPN account (which was talked about in the tutorial) free alternatives are few but if someone is going to buy a VPN account is really worth the "purchase"
From what I saw, theoretically ubuntu would have support for vpn connection. Basically, but ... it doesn't work, at least I didn't succeed. I've tried to connect several times in the past, but PPTP connections don't work. At least I wasn't able to.
For Ubuntu Linux uses OpenVPN, you make an account on openvpn.net

Somehow you tried a VirtualBox? If so set the settings for the virtual machine to Network Adapters Attached To choose Bridged Adapter Name it below to choose your real network card.
Then start Ubuntu (assuming you have the latest version) and when you make the VPN connection click on Advanced and check Use Point-To-Point encryption (MPPE) then OK, Apply and Close and voila, it should work (networking is not easy !: )) By default VirtualBox sets to Network Adapter as NAT and if we knew what NAT does we would easily deduce why the VPN connection does not work :)
Thanks a lot. Now I understand why it didn't work, sometimes I used mppe, other times I didn't. But every time we tick "available for all users". From what I notice, I don't have to do this, if I do, it doesn't connect anymore.
I use the services of "http://www.hideipvpn.com/". The speed is good, there is no advertising or traffic limit and the only limitation I have is not to use torrents or p2p applications.
