Create Live USB stick Ubuntu 11.04 with persistence cache (keep the settings even after restart) - video tutorial

Hello friends, in today's tutorial we will learn how to create a bootable USB stick with persistent cache that will contain the Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal operating system. You're probably wondering what "persistent", persistent cache or persistence cache means. Well a bootable stick with persistent cache will do so so that if we run Ubuntu in Live mode and install different applications or download files, it will save the installed applications or downloaded files. Thus, if we remove the stick and then reinsert it into the computer and boot from it in Live mode, due to persistent memory it will remember the installed applications, settings made or files created or saved on the Desktop. Basically we will have a portable operating system on a USB stick with all our favorite applications, with all the settings and documents we are working on. The stick can be run on any computer, netbook, notebook. The advantage is that it does not require installation on the hard disk but will run directly from the USB stick, will not affect the computer hard disk or the operating system already existing on it. The biggest advantage is of course portability! Being on a USB stick we will be able to take it with us everywhere and we will be able to run it on any computer.
All we need to create a persistent USB stick that will contain 11.04 Ubuntu operating system is a USB stick (4G or higher recommended) and an ISO image or a CD with Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04.

  • Excellent video tutorial, as usual. Could you create a bootable stick with windows xp, vista or 7 ... that is, to have "persistent cache"? That is, the same live operations in windows with persistent cache.

Excellent videotutorialul as obicei.S could create a bootable stick with Windows XP, Vista or 7 ... I mean to have "persistent cache"? That same operations in windows live with persistent cache.

Excellent video tutorial as usual by the way ....
As asked ... can you create a live Xp USB stick with persistence cache ... that also recognizes USB ports? From what I searched ... I found only for Win7 ... I would be especially interested in win Xp ...
      Thank you

Too bad I can not use USB devices if I wind7

Who said that ... or what exactly do you mean I didn't quite understand?

      • AdrianGudus: Who said this ... or what you mean exactly as I do not have it?

So I w7 x64 Ultimate and tried to install the extension pack and wrench usb but fail in xp tutorial says only go if I understand correctly

I say look at that tutorial more carefully and without scrolling. You got it totally wrong! If you don't understand it, you look again and again until you understand. the thing with XP was about something completely different, not the fact that the extension pack and the USB don't work ...

  • I can confirm that the win7 x64 with Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.4.6 bootbalil I could do a stick of 2 1 gb gb with persistence cache.

And I did stick with the persistence cache 8GB ~ 6GB all the Universal USB Installer Windows 7 (x86).

  • Thanks for sharing and I would like to ask you why this [url = http: //shareimage.ro/images/rvxy1ylweqf3l3emyh31.png] this [/ url] phenomenon is happening? It is not a problem to give a refresh but I noticed this on anything browser and with any flash player version installed.

  • Thanks for this tutorial, this is a great thing, but I have a little doubt, how much do we endanger the stick using it in this way? of use.Thank you.

  • Too bad you can not download these video tutorials. It would be good for later. Thank you!

  • CONGRATULATIONS! Once upon a time GNU / LINUX is a fairly mature system and competes with existing operating systems. Health videotutorial.ro!

I did not know that other Linux distributions can keep the settings after restart. I was using a USB stick with NimbleX (a Linux distribution "made" in Romania).
    PS
If possible, make a videotutorial and about NimbleX?

  • Is there still someone in Romania, until windows 8 appears who "can" know how to install (as on hard) windows 7 on the stick?
Short and to the point: to install Windows 7 stick or not!?
DO NOT place that is on that stick and install by booting from the stick.Acum see if professionals in hard-soft jump to the head!
Excuse my harshness but I searched all over the net and I found only Fakes.

7 can install Windows on a USB external hard drive but it must be at least 16G. I unfortunately do not have a stick so roomy yet so can not help with a tutorial yet. I'm not sure if it will work on a USB stick 32G (do not see why it would not work).

      • Thanks for the information ... let's wait for windows 9 as that has "technology" from linux ... and linux is inspired by windows for our benefit.
