How to install Adobe Photoshop CS4 on Ubuntu Linux - video tutorial

Hi friends, today's tutorial to learn how we can install an Adobe Photoshop CS4 Ubuntu Linux operating system. CS4 Photoshop is a professional and highly advanced image editing. Adobe manufacturer normally offers this program for Windows operating systems and Mac OSX but we're going to install smoothly and operating system Ubuntu.
To do this we need:
- Adobe Photoshop CS4 installation kit (for Windows)
- Wine1.3 (Linux application)
- PlayOnLinux (Linux application)
To install Wine1.3 open a terminal and give the following commands (or use the GUI mode installation as mentioned in the tutorial video):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.3

After I installed Wine1.3 will need to install PlayOnLinux giving the following commands in terminal:
wget -q "http://deb.playonlinux.com/public.gpg" -O - | sudo apt-key add -
sudo wget http://deb.playonlinux.com/playonlinux_maverick.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/playonlinux.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install playonlinux

If you use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx LTS 10.04 PlayOnLinux installation commands are:
wget -q "http://deb.playonlinux.com/public.gpg" -O - | sudo apt-key add -
sudo wget http://deb.playonlinux.com/playonlinux_lucid.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/playonlinux.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install playonlinux

Once you have installed PlayOnLinux we open the Application menu> Games, go to the search box Install and write photoshop, search results will appear immediately below the search box, give a click to select it, then click Apply, and follow the simple wizard installation to a time when we are asked to give way to what we will find setup.exe file in Adobe Photoshop CS4 installation kit CD or installation thereof.

  • Great, good tutorial, although I don't use Linux, I may fall in love with this OS in the future, when it will be a little longer .....

  • We have been waiting for you to make more tutorials for Linux, congratulations Adriane, very useful tutorial. Now that you have shown us how to install Photoshop, I hope you will show us how to use it in a future tutorial. As for Wine, I agree to do a detailed tutorial about it. I think Wine is an extra reason to use Linux, for those who do not detach from Windows, plus there are packs for ubuntu that make it look exactly like Windows 7 :).

  • Adrian bravo :) With this tutorial the Win maniacs will start to move on to something free and safe! Congratulations and thanks for the tutorial;)!

  • Very good tutorial Adi. I want a tutorial on Wine. I have a question for you: Why Ubuntu and not another distribution?

    • Dumitrel: Foartebun tutorial Adi. I want a tutorial on Wine. I have a question for you: Why Ubuntu distribution and not another?

"Why Ubuntu and not another distribution?"
A: Because it's the most popular distribution in the world and is ranked 1 on DistroWatch

You would be amazed to find out how many hardcore linuxists have dual boot (linux and windows) use wine to enjoy windows applications, don't think that linuxists don't hack or use commercial software or that they don't "salivate" after windows applications (after some)

A: Because it's the most popular distribution in the world and is ranked 1 on DistroWatch would be surprised how many hardcore Linux users have either dual boot (Linux and Windows) fiefolosesc wine to enjoy Windows applications, do not think that there linuxistii or do not use pirate software's shopping or not "drooling" after Windows applications (according to some)

        I understand.
I do not feel I can not decide which I like best distribution. I think Mint Debian or Debian based version attracts me a little more.

After trying them all, then you can say you're doing in them without any external help, only then you will realize that you like the most and you will automatically stop it. Adrian is absolutely right when he says that Ubuntu is the hottest of all linuxurile distribution. In addition, it has the largest community in Romanian language and their forum is more than you like me.
I was amazed at how it moves, how few resources it eats, how fast it starts and how fast Maverick Merkat closes. Where the hell will he end up if he continues like this? I will leave you my e-mail address when you "carry" me to let me know about the news that appears.
          A good day to all.

  • However, I don't quite understand the point of using Windows commercial programs on Linux. Those who are pro Linux and pro Free Software don't think they would do such a thing but please ... Why don't you use Windows directly with that program and that's it, it works much better and you don't have to complicate yourself so much . I do NOT criticize and I do NOT give lessons to anyone, I said my opinion.

Adi, do not mind me, I know you like Gimp perhaps as much as Photoshop.
    Bravo for the tutorial!
