give more details, in Windows what way do you connect to the internet, what do you do to have internet? In principle, neighborhood providers provide an IP and a DNS that must be entered in the network card settings. In Ubuntu, right click on the network manager icon located on the top right panel (next to the sound manager, the volume button) then on Edit Connections, go to the Wired tab, in the table in the window you will have displayed your network card (something such as Auto eth0 or Auto eth1), select the network card by left click (Auto eth0) then click Edit ...
In the window that opens tick Connect automatically IPv4 tab click Settings and choose Manual Method. A then you can walk in Addresses table. click on Add and enter the IP you gave your provider and put DNS servers DNS provider gave then click on Apply. Click left this time the Network Manager icon located on the top right panel (near sound manager, volume button) and click on Auto eth0, restart the PC or

    • Luchian: Hello, Is it possible to update ubuntu from the 10.04 10.10 without losing data? Thank you!

Yes, but I do not recommend an upgrade to anyone, but rather a fresh install. You make 3 partitions / (root) swap and / home and when a new version comes out you reinstall and you only touch / (root) / home you leave it unchanged and only the system will be installed, you will have all the settings, preferences and files you had in / home. I will make a tutorial about this soon ...

You should not necessarily put 2 DNS, I feel like going to put them both in the same box just separated by commas. For example
      DNS servers: 132.243.126, 143.354.667
Or simply put space between them, without commas
Copy them on a sheet you have in Windows to the network card settings and copy them in Linux where I told you ...
