iReboot, how to quickly switch between operating systems when we have multiboot configuration - video tutorial

If in the last tutorials we talked about the Ubuntu Linux operating system, today we will talk about a software for the Windows operating system, more precisely we will talk about the software called iReboot. I say the software because its functions are very few and it does not have an interface but only a context menu when right-clicking on its icon. If you are wondering how many resources "eat" iReboot you know that it is not "hungry" at all RAM

What exactly does this iReboot?

Nothing easier. And as the power of example is the best let's imagine a "scenario"

Suppose you have 2 operating systems (dual boot)… I don't know… Windows 7 with Ubuntu, Windows XP with Vista, basically any 2 or more operating systems on the same PC. Well we all know that having 2 operating systems at startup or restart the system will automatically boot into the system on the Master hard drive or if they are not installed on different hard drives it will boot into the last operating system installed.

And so if you install XP first and then Vista start or restart the system will automatically boot into Vista because it was the last operating system installed.

Those of you with dual boot have probably noticed that when booting or restarting you have a boot time of 21 seconds to choose in which operating system to boot, everything is ok so far but what do we do if we restart and our phone rings… we are not near the pc when we start it and so we lost the 21 seconds in which we could choose in which system to boot? Maybe we don't want to boot in the first system but we want to boot in the 2nd system and being next to the computer in that 21 second boot time in which we can choose in which system to boot it will automatically boot at the expiration of the 21 seconds in the first selected system.

Well here we help iReboot allows us to choose while you are on the operating system in which operating system to boot from the next restart and thus will not have to stand outside waiting for the computer to boot time to select your system desired operation.

I found this software very useful because it happened many times to be interrupted or having to leave the computer after you restart and it was quite annoying to always give restart to choose different operating system than the default set. And so I got rid of care also sits next to the computer to wait for the boot time where I choose which system to boot.

Of course, there are many methods to be able to set in which system to boot the PC at restart or startup, but for the less advanced there is this wonderful software, it is ideal for those who do not know how to "play" or how to play ”through msconfig.

Unfortunately this app is not running than Microsoft Windows operating systems certainly are not bothered by this because many of you use Windows operating systems.

But let's better to watch this video tutorial.

    • sieigi: I have a question about ubuntu how to change MAC NIC

Very good question, even to make a tutorial about that, if not tomorrow the day after tomorrow for sure! I promise!

Thanks for the proposal and the idea of a new tutorial topic

  • I have a question about this Wubi. He leaves footprints in the MBR?
GRUB definitely leaves. I was convinced of this by doing a little dualboot between Ubuntu and windows xp in Virtualbox. By the time I simply deleted ubuntu's partition, Windows xp could no longer boot (although I did not touch the NTFS partition in any way). The only way to get the XP back on track was to load a live cd (In my case - Hiren boot cd) and choose a program that can repair the MBR. Eventually it worked out for me.

I think you made a decision inspired when you decided to go Linux tutorials. Always be curious people who want to try new things. On the other hand there will also be people who do not want linux, you can not reconcile them all. It needed someone to take the bull by the horns and try to make these tutorials. Keep up the good work.

It only leaves traces if you delete it brutally, as in your case, I made a tutorial where I show how to install real ubuntu in dualboot with Linux (not through wubi) and there I showed how to get rid of Wubi without leaving traces. ..

It is normal and natural to put a boot loader in the partition with Windows (C) because that partition is checked and it reads for the first time when booting, and that the Linux boot loader even if it is through wubi to appear at boot must to put his "tail" in C as well

Either uninstall Wubi like any software, executable reruland Wubi and then fix little boot.ini file in C (which is hidden) or delete the file boot.ini command line then you format the partition or simply delete Wubi Wubi folder the partition where you have chosen to install.

It is best to follow THIS tutorial to find out what leaves wubi behind ...

  • It seems that Ubuntu depends somewhat on windows bootloader. I am thinking the following scenario:
    1) I Wubi partition D
    2) The XP simply breaks down for various reasons, viruses, improper drivers, blabber. It is therefore necessary to reinstall windows. But before formatting the C --- partition (through a live cd something) I save the boot.ini file, or rather I save than that command line that helps to load Ubuntu and keep it somewhere. After formatting the C partition and reinstalling Windows XP, Wubi will no longer be able to load in this case.
And now my question: If I walk in the file boot.ini, and add the command line I saved before formatting the C partition, Wubi will be able to load as if nothing had happened ?

    • vali: ..., will Wubi still be able to charge as if nothing had happened?

I think your answers are Here-. Part of "how to reinstall Wubi `I think I should clarify.
I consider this "user-friendly" method to install Ubuntu just to test. That's why in case you installed Ubuntu through wubi. And what you say happens here:

XP simply breaks down for various reasons, virus, improper drivers, blabla

I recommend you not reinstall XP .. but Ubuntu directly on clean install.
Of course, not many are so "jumped" as me to take this step, but I still think we should look at things from this perspective.

  • Hello! Congratulations on the job you are doing, and maybe I would like you to do a tutorial about a program with which I could install drivers without an installation CD !! Thanks in advance !! Good luck with many tutorials ......

  • the only solution is if you want to be corrupted boot from wuibi and reinstlaezi Widows is to get there when the windows cd shepherd file intact so we did not change me and mia remained 7 windows and folder windows you just jab and you will nimik lose the partition c including dula boot Wubi!
