Deep Cool S40 review, quiet and inexpensive cooler

Hi friends, today I decided to make the CPU of the PC as quiet. For this I use Deep Cool Gammaxx S40, a CPU cooler that is inexpensive and very quiet, plus it is easy to install, which is important for those without much experience.
Stock cooler from Intel or AMD is pretty good, unfortunately these coolers make much noise, which is quite unpleasant when you spend much time on PC.
We chose Deep Cool S40 cooler because it is inexpensive, quiet and easy to assemble / disassemble. Often PC assembly and disassembly is very important, the utin for me it is. I have an Antec case in which the source is mounted above, and you can not mount / unmount the source without remove cooler (if higher). So for me it is important to be able to easily remove the cooler in case you want to remove source or simply I want to use it in another unit.
How good is Deep Coole Gammaxx S40?
At first I was not expecting too much from it, fortunately it cools better processor than the stock cooler and makes it more quiet.
The load test we used Prime95 and CoreTemp for reading temperatures.

Intel stock cooler:

After 20 minutes Prime95
Maximum temperature = 87 degrees Celsius
22 db sound pressure =
…………

Deep Cool cooler S40

After 30 minutes Prime95
Maximum temperature = 73 degrees Celsius
16 db sound pressure =

…………

Room temperature = 22 degrees Celsius
Room sound pressure db = 14
Above must stress that this program uses very processor intensive, so that no software will not ever make. Prime95 exaggerate CPU usage, normally you will never reach this temperature using normal programs.
The results are clear, Deep Cool S40 cooler is efficient, cheap, quiet and easy to install.
If you are going to overclock "extremely", this cooler will not help you much. When overclocking the light cooler copes brilliantly.
Where can I find CPU cooler?

  • Very hard, by the way I want to make a video tutorial with yahoo messenger 12 because many operating systems do not work for example windows xp sp2 does not work I can install it, I can run it but when I want to talk to a person I can't I miss the whole program on windows 7 as if it works I don't know on vista I haven't tried but on xp it certainly doesn't work. Thanks! :)

    • You alternatives to xp, xp and even if you do not understand why you use when sp2 and sp3 that would probably solve the problem.

  • Heat pipe is a pipe for coolers with longitudinal channels or capillaries lined with an oxide layer foam which acts capillary channel. Between the evaporation and cooling the pressure difference is established and regardless of the position of the pipe, fluid transfer against gravity by capillary zone pressure (saturated steam, cooling area) to the area of low pressure (vapor unsaturated evaporation in the hot area). This circuit is possible and that the pipe is relatively filed a vacuum that allows evaporation of heat at low temperatures (acetone, alcohol, ethanol, etc.) and the temperature difference between evaporation and condensation enthalpy allows the transfer of heat to below 40- 50 degrees Celsius. This explains the work in any position of the cooler, and capillary pressure difference.

  • Hello guys
I had the Heat a processor without reason, especially as it was and intel
I had several "experiences" in the past and I had come to the conclusion that only those amd heat up (look, it's not like that)
you all know that before silicon chip processors were discovered without that protection of metal, and still
    CEs are on laptop
and as I said I changed the cooler; thermally conductive paste but in vain it was only in 70 degrees; in the end I changed it and what to see and this new one did the same
then I 've removed cleaned and put cooler without thermal compound that is iron iron
and the surprise is only in 38-40 degrees (this went to me, this does not mean that everyone can be like that)

    • Eliminating conductors paste is a surprise for me from going and look however, and, back at the beginning paste is solidified and was intended to isolate, then you have applied and have not aplicato good or paste being very bad. Everything and if engineers from factories or the processors from pulp mills Ventilating recommend thermoconductor means recommend it for anything (however their are engineers).

      • thermal compound is for imperfections (in my opinion) and nothing more when it comes to processors who protective metal
when it comes to processors who discovered da silicon chip should be applied to the pill is not necessarily finished right (and not metal) but should apply a thin layer so that after mounting the cooler edges not flow so as not I did nothing and even more worst as I said above

  • I believe if it is a newer generation PC like 2012 2014 it has included a similar cooler from the factory because most bios or newer UEFI have the option to set from it how to work cooler fans etc. and inb plus I emphasize to be as quiet as possible. and from bios or UEFI we have for example silent for full performance or suit. anyway, the tutorial is useful because I have an older pc and it needed a new cooler.

  • Between the processor and the cooler, due to the flatness deviations and the roughness of the two surfaces, there is a direct contact area between the two solid media which represents a rather low percentage compared to the entire contact surface. In the area of direct contact between metals, heat is transmitted through the pipe and is the most efficient way. On the rest of the surface where we do not have direct contact between the two metal surfaces there is air that heats up from the hot environment and transmits by convection the heat of the other metal body. Because the air is less dense, it contains far fewer molecules in contact with metal surfaces and transmits heat less efficiently from one surface to another. Filling these gaps with a denser substance that has the highest possible thermal conductivity makes the phenomenon of thermal convection more efficient. If the substance contains metal powders, the thermal convection does not turn into thermal conduction but becomes even more efficient. Ideally, the thermally conductive paste should be as dense and as thin as possible so that it does not become a thermal barrier (mercury is perfect, but extremely toxic).

  • How to get quality thermal compound.
We take a piece of glass that scratch with sandpaper. Thoroughly clean the glass surface. Put a drop or two of glycerin, petrolatum clean, cream or other viscous substance but not sticky on the rough surface of the glass.
Rub vigorously and patiently glass surface, the drop of liquid, a silver cross, so fine silver powder to be embedded in a viscous fluid. When translucency fluid viscosity increases and disappears without losing fluidity of the paste is ready.
We spread a very thin layer of paste on the contact surfaces of the processor and the cooler. We fix the corresponding cooler and move it circularly on the processor as if we were rubbing it in order to make the contact between the surfaces as good as possible and to have an intermediate contact layer as small as possible.
Instead we use aluminum silver or copper grease which will not oxidize.

    • Lucian, thank you very much for this idea with thermal paste. I wouldn't have thought of that, I understand that you are a specialist and you deal with something like that. I have enough problems with the temperature of an AMD Processor, I changed N radiators and N coolers but without too many beneficial results. The computer is a second one, on which my wife sits and is still playing on the internet / facebook. So I wouldn't want too much investment for it, like a new radiator with cooler. I have a thermally conductive paste on the syringe, quite cheap, I think about 13 lei, it is white, just like I have an old 14k wedding ring that is broken, so I don't use it, it would be even better if I used it instead of silver? Will I have to take much of it? It wouldn't matter what weight I use, I just change the paste once every 6 months ... I'm thinking of using it for both the laptop and the main unit. Thanks, I'm waiting for an answer. Thank you Cristi too.

      • My advice is to not ruin the wedding ring is sin.
Use the paste as it is.
The difference between the best and the worst pasta is 2-3 maximum in extreme situations.

        • Right, not worth it! Using silver, or other precious metal, does not justify the fact that it has a thermal conductivity higher than other metals semnimificativ. Metal filings from fluid acts as a heat transfer fluid accelerator, this role is reduced to that other metals around the metallic grain forms a barrier oxide layer. Another beneficial role of silver is that it is a very soft metal and fits in the space between cooler and CPU.
The use of copper with grease can give the same satisfaction as a binder and silver company.
Very important is that between the two heat transfer surfaces to have very little paste, so there is metal contact area between cooler and CPU. Layer as fine metal powder can significantly increase the transfer by conduction, ie only metal, metal particles bridging efficient transfer between two surfaces in contact.
As a tip, paste layer as thin, but fill all voids is obtained by fixing more durable and balanced plan of the cooler on the CPU.

    • Hello. I tried this solution and I can say that it works perfectly. Better efficiency than standard paste on intel coolers (i5 2500, 3.3gHz, in my case). I decided to try homemade paste after 3-4 years of using the system, which I haven't been to before. I had reached temperatures of 60 degrees in idle and 85-90 in load. Now I have a load of 60 degrees and 30 in idle. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
