The difference in performance between drivers, IDE vs. Microsoft AHCI Vs. Intel AHCI - video tutorial

Hi friends, in this video tutorial we will continue the incursion into the realm of storage, we make a comparison between SATA in IDE mode, Microsoft AHCI and Intel AHCI in the last tutorial I showed how to activate AHCI for better performance of your hard disk, you need not do much, some settings and ready, do not spend money, do not install software, modify hardware, though we get a better performance from the hard drive using site AHCI (Advanced host controller interface) technology that makes us hard drive smarter and more disciplined.
You need to understand from the beginning some things, hard drives SATA can operate in 3 modes, the first mode is IDE the HDD operates as a drive on the IDE, the second way is AHCI mode, in AHCI mode enabled all capabilities with SATA interface was endowed (NCQ, hot pluging etc.), the third mode is RAID, here two or more hard drives may work together to increase performance (RAID 0 or 10), safety (raid 1) or to provide redundancy (rAID 5 or 6) are several types of rAID arrays but not what we talk today, maybe in another tutorial we will address this topic and of course if you are interested.
Almost all hard drives today have NCQ (native command quering), a function that streamlines work hard disk, can not be used without NCQ AHCI enabled community.
Hot pluging is another advanced feature that can be used after enabling AHCI's so we can connect and disconnect disk drives while the system is working, just like a USB stick, this is extremely useful to those who have hard disk ESATA external CEs.
AHCI site helps us to use highly efficient hard drive into a multi tasking environment, where multiple applications running simultaneously is felt the need for a higher IOPS.
The test that was done for the tutorial highlights effective AHCI's compared to how IDE to 4K-64Threads AHCI the shattered IDE, the transfer speed IDE pulled 22.93 MB / s while AHCI-ROM driver Microsoft pulled 102.97 MB / s and IOPS IDE has been felt inferiority IDE pointed 5871 while AHCI got in 26359.
I hope these results will convince the maturity and efficiency AHCI site, I see no reason to stay in IDE, a management mode is not recommended for old hard drives or SSDs modern.
In test both drivers AHCI, Intel that Microsoft were comporata copy were small differences between them in favor of Intel but the main idea is that AHCI is well above IDE, this especially in multi tasking where AHCI made a demonstration of efficiency.
Assay method:
Soft benchmark - AS SSD Benchmark 1.5.3784.37609
OCZ Vertex SSD hard drive testat- 2 60GB
Chipset - Intel P35 + ICH9R
Drivers - Intel Matrix Storage 03.2009, Microsoft AHCI 6.1.7600.16385
The test was run twice for each configuration, the best result was captured.
I don't see why you would stay on IDE, if the motherboard supports AHCI don't stop thinking…

  • I know that my post here is useless, but I need your help, don't hesitate to do it if you are aware of the exact cause, I want to know where I set my pc to show me the extension of a more exact file, for example. I create a text file and its name is how I make it look and the extension at the end I know I can find the extension in properties but that's not what I want to set it to show me at the end of the title the extension, please help me. success :)

    • In "Control Panel" - "Folder Option" at the "View" option, check / uncheck "Shou hidden files, folders and drivers" and uncheck / uncheck "Hide extension for known file types"

Organize -> Folder and search option -> view -> uncheck "Hide extension for known files type"

  • Dear friends, the hard drive is a "problem" component.
Hard is like a salesman, he has to do too many things at once, unfortunately he is not able to because he is limited by the mechanical part, he has to serve the customers, he has to collect money, he has to be careful not to miss it, not to be stolen by bad customers.
IDE = customers who queue up, clutter, multiple requests to the seller.
AHCI = a bodyguard who makes order, no one gets in front.
Sorry but so far simplify things.

  • Hi. You will not notice any performance passing from IDE / AHCI to our eyes and I am sure that many have a player / browser and open mess and with this thing you will not feel anything. AHCI "pronounces" more than a year Multitasking .

    • Jellfis: Salut.Nu you obs no performance going from IDE / AHCI our eyes and I'm sure many have a player / browser open and mess with stuff you will not feel them nimic.AHCI 'rule' more year Multitasking.

Do you still pay close attention to me? Go and lasagna ... Of course you won't see the difference in two, three applications, but make the difference between two PCs, one with AHCI and the other without, both with the same applications with the same components and with 10-20 applications running , and you will see that the one with AHCI moves better, what the hell did you not see that test, I'm sure, Cristi didn't cheat that test, it's too SERIOUS Cristi to do something like that!

  • Cristi welcome! I have a laptop with AHCI but when I bought it I went IDE for not otherwise be able to install XP AHCI driver so now I got the acer site and one on the intel but none go install. are greeted by the message:
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."
I entered the bios and activated AHCI but then it doesn't boot my windows ...
What is wrong? or should I put AHCI in Windows with nLite? there another solution? pls help!

I went into bios and activated AHCI but then I no longer boot WinXP ...
What is wrong? or should I put AHCI in Windows with nLite? there another solution? pls help!

Try and integrate AHCI driver in Windows with nLite, we see that tutorial about it.

Enter through the IDE in windows. Integrated into the AHCI driver in the new windows with nLite. Then install Windows with integrated AHCI. Do not forget to enable ACHI in BIOS before installing Windows.

      • Hello!
By default, Windows kit, for example 7 8 or on x32 or x64 comes without integrated AHCI?
If so, you have no choice but to install Windows IDE and then put him on AHCI in the BIOS, SafeBoot Minimal, Microsoft AHCI drivers draws and then return to normal boot.
        So is it?

        • Drive in AHCI or RAID configuration is automatically recognized 0 1 or installing Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 if set AHCI in BIOS / UEFI. This condition known to be a chipset (Intel, AMD).
XP does not recognize AHCI or RAID arrays configuration to load a driver needs (RAID / AHCI) to install Windows.

  • Another is the problem, namely, that there are still many new computers that you can not put than XP, Windows Vista or 7 not. and the installation kit is Windows XP SATA driver. or maybe you get a laptop and want to put XP on it, and you wake up you can not install SATA, and you have to set in the BIOS IDE compatible. I think it would be a welcome tutorial for adding SATA drivers are on the CD installation or after installation XP, for adding SATA drivers. can set the sata in bios.
I tried to put a sata laptop later and I got errors, so I left the BIOS IDE compatible.

It gives that error because it is not AHCI enabled in bios, if enabled in the BIOS it will get blue screen.
It's a vicious circle, I'll do a tutorial after I do some tests.

  • hello I have a leptop emachines and installed NCQ and AHCI and error feels great difference .. Thanks for these super videotutoriale treabayahoo.com

  • I was against some comm made by the admins here: but I say it with my hand on my heart that now I give them GREAT JUSTICE when it comes to clarifying someone like the case of "" BGD "" I don't know how you read my comm but I would say that you read / understood it VERY WRONG. Everyone can leave their opinion about the tutorial in their own way, of course not to go down to the level of "" BGD "" with his neighborhood language. Please fromos to you control young language !!
