Preparing the operating system for efficient running on an SSD - video tutorial

Hi friends, in the following video tutorial I will present a few modifications that have to do in the operating system to use an SSD to its true value.
SSD works differently than a conventional hard drive, Solid State Drive stores data on flash chips compared to the hard disk that stores data on a magnetic surface, a turntable, in this case the hard drive needs using the operating system to gain speed and response time, the SSD-ui no longer need system tools such as defragmentation, indexing, Superfetch, Prefetch etc. SSD instant data access regardless of the sector they are.
To make SSD faster, to prolong life have to do some changes in the operating system below steps that I have I traveled in the tutorial:

Step 1 (SSD used)

AS ..AS Clean ……………… ..

Step 2, better drivers for AHCI and RAID.

……… .Direct Intel AHCI ………

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Chipsets&ProductLine=Chipset+Software&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Rapid+Storage+Technology+%28Intel%C2%AE+RST%29

Step 3, Enable write caching

Step 4, disabling indexing SSD

Step 5, Disable the defragmentation service (useless for SSD) "from services"

Step 6, Disable system restore

Step 7, Disable superfetch "from service"

Step 8, disable prefetch “registry”

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management \ PrefetchParameters
For more details you can watch SSDs Article from blog or tutorial on videotutorial.ro.
If you want to buy an SSD in it, I recommend SSDs based on SandForce controller 1200, some SSDs equipped with this controller as: Mushkin Callisto, Corsair Force, OCZ Vertex 2These drives have speeds searing high reading and writing, respectively 285 275 MB MB.
Remember, if you have suggestions, complaints or additions do not hesitate to write in the comments box, de-also if you met the comments box a user has a problem and you can help him, do not hesitate to do it, the only way we can do this place better, see the comments box!
Enjoy !

  • I take my hat off to the producer of this tutorial.Astept and other tutorials about the new technology in this field, tutorials on new hardware on the market .. etc..

  • does it mean that it doesn't make sense to buy my ssd for linux? ..if somehow linux works on ssd..we are waiting for an answer..thank you very much!

    • cossmyn: Means that it is pointless to buy my ssd for linux? ... Kind of sucks ... I wanted to buy a PC to run it only on linux .... among other machines I wanted to equip it with an SSD ... if something goes linux the ssd .. waiting reply .. thanks a lot!

works perfectly. I have a Kingston V Series SATA 2

SSD works well on any operating system, the only option is the lack of TRIM (Windows 7 has trim) but I think it will soon introduce support, especially Ubuntu.
Get your SSD not worry, you'll feel the difference and no trim, the difference between hard disk and SSD is huge, as from heaven to earth.

  • Hi, I would like to know how do I deactivate the external hard drives from entering the stand bay on windows 7?

    • Adi: Hi I would like to know how to disable external hard drives do not come in the windows 7 stend bay?  Cite me

Click on Home then control Panel, and in the control panel check the top right to have "View by"set to Large icons. Then you go on Power Options, and next to your plan you have (if it is default you will have checked "Balanced") click on Change plan settings then click on Change advanced power settings. In the window that appears go on hard disk, Click on the + in front of him that has expanded the options, then click on the plus in front of Tun off hard disk after, Click on Setting and you have 2 arrows on top of each other from where you can increase or decrease the time ... click on the arrow pointing down until you reach Never (You get to 0 and more once you click the arrow pointing down to write Never) Then you go in the same window on USB settingsClick on the plus in front of him to Expand, click on the plus in front of USB selective suspend settings and Setting choose Disabled. Then click on Apply bottom right of the window and click on the big OK. Recommended is to give and to restart the PC.

In the future learn English if you do not catch your nose in Windows and know how to set anything you want!

  • Speaking of mechanical parts and dvd writer is (or rum dvd cd burner depends on what has each) which is also a mechanical part.

  • I can not say nothing but praise filmmakers this website, find here many solutions that you can not tell anyone honestly say, I ran the 8 years, work and service in the field, I have done some courses but not jnveti than actually working and hitting you unfamiliar problems, say from experience that for me everything unknown is a challenge for knowledge and discovery, but also a great satisfaction when you succeed, there are things you know but there are many who do not I knew and I learned here, so once again congratulate the guys on tutorial, you are a real support! Bafta!

Thank you very much and you wait?

  • Super tutorialul.Dar though I have some concerns and specifically the SSD where I installed an Acer Aspire with 640 Go HDD so could use an SSD to him that I SO that's windows7 and HDD him used only for storage? SSD can be connected externally?

    • CsabiSuper tutorialul.Dar I still have some questions, and more specifically the SSD where I installed an Acer Aspire with 640 Go HDD so could use an SSD to him that I SO that's windows7 and to HDD I use it only for storage? SSD can be connected externally?

SSD is mounted internally as classic hardware. If you have an older housing (the time when there SSD) you can put and fixed in place stand-Floppy Drive (where you stick the floppy) Floppy And so it is no longer useful, than a BIOS update

  • Thank you, very helpful, I just bought an OCZ Vertex 2, I installed w 7 64 b, we set di bios AHCI then 8 those steps, but I have a problem 2 the hdd, wd 640gb, not anymore. Can you help me with some advice?

That is because of the AHCI enabled yes disable the BIOS again and everything will be OK or you can watch the tutorial about integrating drivers AHCI in Windows installation kit. Write up in the search box to the right of the black border: AHCI, hit enter and you will find the tutorial

    • Molina: Thanks, but I worked ide see in tests that do not reach the same speed write / read as AHCI.

If you want to enable the AHCI I said above, you have to integrate the drivers you find on your laptop manufacturer or if not on your chipset manufacturer. With Everest out what chipset you have (and will write on your laptop manufacturer to Specifications (specs) what chipset you have) and we see that tutorial about it, write up in the search box on the right: Everest, you enter and you will find the tutorial. Then do what is said in the tutorial after you downloaded AHCI drivers for AHCI. Impression that the speed is less than just the placebo effect. Defragment your hard drive (write top right: hard disk defragmentation, you enter and you will find tutorials on that) and everything should be OK. With AHCI enabled the reading is done in a different order (better organized) but do not feel or performance are not noticeable
