What's new in the new Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal operating system - video tutorial

Hello friends, today's tutorial we will talk about the coming new operating system Ubuntu 12.10 Quetzal Quanta released yesterday. Who knows, Ubuntu is an operating system open source (free open source software) and can be downloaded and installed from any PC user without the need of a license. The company behind this operating system is Canonical and every 6 Monday released a new version of the operating system.
What's new in Ubuntu 12.10 Quanta Quetzal?
Well, a little timid move from Canonical related enhancements to this version. They decided to focus heavily on the integration of cloud services and social services with the operating system. Specifically we will be able to search directly from Dash Home files stored in Google Drive photos from Facebook, Picasa Web Albums or Flickr friends or posts from social accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus.
Also, Dash Home does not hesitate to offer suggestions contextual search terms. For example if we look through our files by artist, band or song, Dash Home site will offer suggestions albums from Amazon, the same thing happening for movies or software.
This is the biggest and most important change for Ubuntu 12.10 Quanta Quetzal but let's see what are the other changes to that system:
- during installation we have the possibility to secure and encrypt the operating system
- Remote Login offers us the possibility to log in to another PC or operating system as soon as we open the PC and before accessing the Ubuntu Desktop interface.
- Bluring Web and Desktop is the way we can integrate various web services or web applications with the launcher and MeMenu for notifications and quick access to these services. This means that we will receive notifications in Launcher or in MeMenu for new emails received in the Yahoo account, Gmail
- Unity Preview offers us the possibility to preview documents, photos, books, movies and songs in the cloud, social or local services as well as posts made on Facebook or Twitter.
- Preview App Installs allows us to search for new applications and install them without opening Ubuntu Software Center
- Online Accounts - is an application that centralizes all social accounts or cloud services facilitating their quick and easy management
- a new animation for minimizing and maximizing windows
- the possibility to restore previous versions for the files in the Home folder. It is necessary to activate the automatic backup using Dejadup, the backup software that comes installed in Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.
We are seeing a trend toward cloud and integration with social services from all manufacturers OS. The trend also found in Microsoft Windows 8, the new iOS6 Apple, Google Android and ChromeOS and Canonical Ubuntu operating system. A right direction toward which we are heading and welcome my opinion, that will feature in keeping files safe places through encryption, providing quick access to important files from any location and from any device. Another advantage is that using web services and applications, processing is done in the cloud, on servers owned by Copan offering these services as being necessary to our PC to be performing one or limited storage space. That said, I invite you to watch the tutorial to see exactly which improvements the new operating system Ubuntu 12.10 Quanta Quetzal

  1. Hi, I have an old desktop system, I installed Windows XP, for another newer do not run well, do you think deserves to go to ubuntu?
I'm not familiar with it at all, do you think should run better than Windows XP, faster boot and others.

There was a time, in 2006-2009, when Linux distributions were fairly easy for older PCs. Now it's a whole other fish dish. Even for linux a decent pc is required.
From my point of view, ubuntu 12.10, with the unity interface, I don't think it will move too well on that computer. You could try linux mint 13 mate (based on ubuntu 12.04 LTS). Mate desktop environment is a bit easier with resources. But even so, it will not be lighter than windows xp. Windows xp appeared in 2001, and in 2004 service pack 2 appeared which gave a "new face" to xp. At that time there were completely different hardware requirements. No operating system, whether it is windows or not, which appeared or will appear in the next period, will be lighter than windows xp.
You say you are not familiar with ubuntu… I would recommend you get acquainted with it, because it is completely different from windows. It also has strengths and weaknesses. Strengths:
      -Is the license free
      -Stay better security chapter
      - You don't usually need to install an antivirus or firewall

      But also has many weaknesses:
Lack of interest from manufacturers of software, so a much narrower range of third-party programs available
Issue Task drivers for some peripherals (webcams, printers etc.)
-There Is native yahoo messenger client for linux, there is only reviews made by third parties. You will not enjoy support audio / video via webcam and microphone. You could have problems with file transfers.
-You Will take some time until you become familiar with it, but if you're a curious person by nature, you will be able to do this in time. There are many differences between Windows and Linux.
-Buguri (Small or large), always have been and will be in linux.
      - It seems that Adobe has misunderstood linux users in terms of the flash player plugin. Version 11.2 is the latest to support linux. From now on, newer versions of the flash player will only appear for "pepper api". At the moment only google chrome has this API, other browsers do not (Adobe would have concluded a collaboration agreement with google. From my point of view, Adobe is very insensitive). Mozilla says they are not interested in implementing this API yet. But anyway, the adobe flash player plugin, through "pepper api" runs harder than the other standard (especially in full screen). At least that's how it seems to me, on my own computer. So I disabled the flash player integrated in google chrome and let it run the other one, of the system. Maybe in time, google will correct the errors. I also advise site administrators to try to offer an HTML 5 alternative for videos in the future… so that we don't have to stay in the hands of Adobe.

But many weaknesses that meets them on windows you shall remember?

I can't list them here, for the simple reason "there are too many". 😛

  2. Hello,

I installed Ubuntu if 12.04, 12.10 can be upgraded to an update by example?

    thanks a lot.

You can go through an update at 12.10 but as mentioned it is not recommended especially from the LTS versions (12.04) to the intermediate ones with reduced maintenance but if you have to do this… (don't leave links to unofficial sites)

    I said and I repeat:
Although the operating system allows upgrading to a new version with a function for it. I do not recommend this method. It is best to do a fresh install that upgrade module is not so bright and may have difficulty

Here I want to talk fifty-fifty, you have something against?
Thanks for the "correction" but I will continue to use the terms maximization and minimization as long as I live on this planet. You can appeal to the court if you are not "arranged" by the fact that I express myself as I want

  9. but Yahoo Messenger is compatible with this version of linux?

    • virus2009 said

No. You can use Pidgin, Kopete, video call and you've got great Skype works very well (audio, video).

    • I'm not an expert in Ubuntu or IT, but if you want something functional and somewhat good, try gyachi. Gyachi is the only one that comes close to yahoo, otherwise it's just nonsense! You won't find a "videocall" and it doesn't have voice support, instead the webcam works great. (I don't know if in 12.10)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: adilson / experimental
      sudo apt-get update
      sudo apt-get install gyachi

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: baudm / ppa
      sudo aptitude update
      sudo aptitude install gyachi

    Why do you say that?

You find it easier to use Windows like how a distribution based on Ubuntu (based)?
I asi says no, installation of the e Muran-mouth, you do not choice but to click on install and pass: from here gape elsewhere until completion, not next, next, uncheck advertisements and other junk (for fofturi free, there meets so), overall, do exactly as in Windows.

Such examples, but I think it is not worth going in error some users, if you have not informed.

    Bay, bay all.

Previous version did not say so for Google Chrome.

  14. still give something. I can not encrypt the system is giving the option can not be selected. Anyone know dc?

We made an article on our site dedicated to Linux lovers about solving the problem "The package is bad of quality" encountered when installing certain applications: http://linux.videotutorial.ro/ultimele/cum-rezolvam-problema-the-package-is-of-bad-quality-la-instalare-softuri-in-ubuntu-12-10-video/

  17. Hello,
I looked at your tutorials, I was very excited to see that I can put scalding 2 totally different systems, so I 7 choose between Windows and Ubuntu.
I've installed, go amandou, I can enjoy 2 operating system (that's if you can call linux operating system).
But I have a problem with ubuntu majorta, the problem does not exist on Windows 7.
I can not make an internet connection, so make a DSL connection in ubuntu, put your username and password given in the contract, but does not work at all.
I did a DSL service with or without name, as all pricezeaza in several tutorials.
It created a mobile connection through mobile that stick to digital works, but when it is a wired connection does not work at all.
    Any idea what's wrong?

    • I quote: "this is if linux can be called an operating system". If you're curious, Linux was the first operating system before Windows. Windows caught such wings for. ease of operation, not at all for. stability. So, you don't think it would be an operating system anymore. Yes, and another good one. That it is not "tasted" by some like you, or that it is "forgotten" by software developers is another story. In some for that it is more complicated to use, in others for that it is not profitable, there are no users, implicitly those who want software, which software must be paid, and that, that it is worked, and some must live.

    Hi Adrian

I am a newer user of Linux Mint 16… .and indeed as mentioned above are good parts of this distribution, which in my humble opinion covers quite well the needs of a user. I was struck by the fact that for about 3-4 months since I studied it, it has not been blocked even once, which is a strong point for an OS. It probably went for simplicity, which is sometimes not really recommended and I will come up with an example, maybe childish for some, but for me it's annoying. When I open a work window, whether it's a browser or a word page, etc., a window greets me with a dull gray nail that makes me not feel like working anymore. I looked for an option to change the appearance of the window at least minimally, but I did not find any option. If there is such an option somewhere in the configuration menus I would be grateful if it could be discussed. In conclusion, I like it, it is simple, intuitive, with enough applications, a pity that those who provide the application platform do not lean more seriously on this OS.
