Short and to the point, google "Windows 8.1 Product Key Finder Ultimate". Terms:
1. Advisable thing would be to run in a virtual machine.

First, it does not matter if Windows 7 was licensed or not because what you did there is not fresh install upgrade but at least I know myself. From what I read on the net this error may appear due to corrupt files so try to re-download the ISO image using a download manager or another browser besides chrome because of what I understand he lose packets. You can install windows 8 running setup.exe but you have to have some special conditions so to speak. Type it in the search box at the top right: "how to install windows vista 7 or without dvd or usb stick", and after you have made the 5 GB partition and copied the files from the iso image all you have to do is run the executable and the step with selecting the partition to choose any other partition except the 5 GB one.
As for your problem with the stick try using Rufus to put Windows on stick. I find the easiest way. Find the tutorial on the site just by using the search box.
